Save Long Island’s Water—Vote Yes on Prop 2!
Suffolk County Proposition 2, also known as the *Water Quality Restoration Act*, is widely supported across the political spectrum, underscoring the bipartisan commitment to preserving Suffolk’s water resources and quality of life. This proposition aims to mitigate nitrogen pollution—a significant problem caused by outdated cesspools and septic systems that affect drinking water and marine health. Both Democratic and Republican leaders recognize the urgent need for action, and they endorse Prop 2 as a practical, sustainable solution that benefits the entire community.
Prop 2 would fund vital wastewater infrastructure improvements, including the expansion of sewer districts in more densely populated areas and the replacement of pollutant-heavy cesspools and septic tanks with modern, clean water septic technology like FujiClean. This measure would not only help protect clean water but also bolster the local economy by creating jobs, unlocking state and federal funds, increasing property values, and revitalizing local business districts. All of these improvements would be funded through a 1/8-cent increase in the county sales tax, which amounts to a mere 12 cents on every $100 spent.
Supported by environmental organizations, the Long Island Builder’s Institute, local labor organizations, and residents from diverse political backgrounds, Prop 2 represents a shared vision for Suffolk County’s future, prioritizing health, environmental protection, and economic vitality. Voting “Yes” on Prop 2 in the November 5, 2024 election is a unified step toward securing these benefits for current and future generations.
